How to Download Videos on Android

Downloading works the same way across most Android browsers, but where the file actually lands, and why a download sometimes silently fails, trips people up more than the downloader step itself.

Where downloaded videos are saved

In Chrome (the default on most Android phones), a completed download goes to the Download folder on internal storage. You can find it two ways: pull down Chrome's notification shade and tap the completed-download notification, or open the Files app (sometimes called "Files by Google") and look under Downloads.

Why a download can fail silently

The most common cause on Android isn't the downloader; it's storage permissions or free space. If Chrome doesn't have storage access, or the device is nearly out of space, a download can fail without a clear error. Check Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions and confirm storage access is allowed, and make sure you have a few hundred MB free before downloading larger videos.

Using the downloader on Android

1. Copy the video link from the platform's Share menu.
2. Open the downloader above and paste the link.
3. Choose a quality from the list shown for that specific video.
4. Tap Download, and check the notification shade for progress.

Moving a video into your gallery

Downloaded videos land in the general Downloads folder, not your camera roll, so they won't automatically show up in Google Photos. To move one, open Files, select the video, and use Move to (or share it to Google Photos directly) if you want it alongside your other media.
